When used to describe a newspaper story, late-breaking refers to a news item that becomes available shortly after 5 pm and is then printed in the final edition before the closing bell. Similarly, when used to describe scientific abstracts, it refers to research results that become available after the general abstract submission deadline but that may have significant impact on the field.
Abstracts describing new, urgent, and clinically significant results that could not have been anticipated prior to the regular abstract submission deadline are considered late-breaking. These data should have the potential to influence practice or improve patient outcomes and must be reported in sufficient detail to allow clinical application.
Top-scoring late-breaking scientific abstracts are selected for scientific oral abstract presentations (platform presentations). All authors must submit financial disclosure by Tuesday, June 17 and be registered to attend the annual meeting by Friday, July 20. Travel/hotel accommodations and fees are the Presenting Author’s responsibility.
Only one late-breaking abstract submission per presenting author will be accepted. Authors may appear on multiple papers but each paper, and the corresponding poster, must have a different conference registrant. To ensure accurate publication, all co-authors included in an abstract author block must have a free My SfN account. All authors must agree to participate in the presentation of this work and certify that the submission meets all guiding policies and principles endorsed by SfN.
